About the artwork:

Jean-Michel Basquiat, Equals Pi, 1982

“Equals Pi” (1982) originates from a much sought-after period in Basquiat’s career and is revered for its captivating hue reminiscent of robin egg blue. This masterpiece showcases a variety of the artist’s trademark elements, including crowns, skulls, enigmatic symbols, and the recurrent fragmented words that feature prominently in his other significant works. The title alludes to the equations interwoven on the canvas’s right side, offering a glimpse into Basquiat’s fascination with mathematics. Pi, a mathematical constant, frequently emerges unexpectedly in a myriad of mathematical scenarios, and its incorporation adds an extra layer of intrigue to the artwork.
